“Neumagener Weinschiff” (Neumagen wine ship)

The “Neumagener Weinschiff” was created around the year 220 AD. It was originally the tomb of a Roman wine merchant and was built into the Roman fortress of Noviomagus in late antiquity.

In 1878 it was discovered together with other tombs in the foundations of a in the foundations of a defence wall. The fragments of the three wine vessels found were probably related to the profession of the deceased. The original is in the Rheinisches Landesmuseum in Trier.
